  1. The canoe must be constructed in such a way that it is to be propelled by two persons using paddles.
  2. The paddles must be single-bladed and may not make use of a hinge point.
  3. A rudder is allowed, provided that it is made of concrete and only operated from inside the canoe.
  4. The canoe must comply with the following dimensions:
    • Maximum length 6 meter
    • Minimum length 4 meter
    • Maximum height 1 meter
  5. The canoe must be clearly identifiable from both sides by a start number (this number will be announced later on). Colour of the digits must be black or blue (dimensions digit: width 75 mm and height 150 mm) on a white surface (dimensions: width 150 mm and height 150 mm).

  1. The canoe must be made out of concrete.
  2. The strength and stiffness of the canoe must be entirely due to the coherence between hardened concrete or mortar and its reinforcements. Non-concrete parts are not allowed to enhance the strength of the canoe and must be removed upon the jury’s request.
  3. The binding agent must be cement. Light and/or stony additional materials must be used, for which the fractional size is free. Additives are allowed, provided that they do not entirely or in part replace the binding working of the cement.
  4. All kinds of reinforcement are allowed, provided that they do not have considerably stiffening properties. The reinforcement material may not consist of sheets.
  5. Synthetic materials are allowed to make the surface of the canoe water-resistant. These materials are not allowed to contribute to the strength and stiffness of the canoe. A maximum of two kilograms of synthetic materials is allowed.

  1. In case of breaking the separate parts of the canoe may not sink and must stay afloat. In order to give the canoe the given floating properties floating objects must be built into the canoe. Synthetics may be used for floating objects. Floating object may not contribute to the stiffness of the canoe. Floating object must be removed upon the jury’s request and during the determination of the weight of the canoe. Floating objects must be placed inside the canoe.

  1. Advertising is only allowed on the team canoe and on the team outfit. This advertising may only be by means of labels, adhesive letters, plates et cetera. Obviously these materials must comply with the requirements specified before.

  1. If the canoe is damaged during transport or during the regatta repairs are allowed if the materials for the repair comply with the specifications mentioned above. The construction jury may be asked for advice on this matter.

  1. It must be possible to get the canoe in and out of the water by hand. If the canoe sinks and must be landed by the organisation, costs will be passed on to the participating institution.

  1. A report on the construction and building of the canoe must be made. The report is also considered for the prices by the construction jury.
  2. The report on the construction and building of the canoe must be submitted to the organisation before may 16 2010. The report must be written in Dutch or English. Foreign teams can send their report in PDF-format by e-mail to info@betonkanorace2010.nl. If a construction report is not submitted, disqualification will follow.
  3. The following items must at least be included in the report:
    • Performance requirements, functional requirements and their implementation;
    • Drawing of the canoe;
    • Shape of the canoe;
    • Description of the construction;
    • Description of the construction process (in detail);
    • Summary of the materials used (type and amount). Synthetics should be specified here as well;
    • Explanation of the concrete mixture.

  1. At the day of arrival june 4 2010 the weight and dimensions of the canoe are determined. The construction jury will judge if the canoe complies with the rules and regulations for construction. The participating teams must be present during the jury judgement so they can answer possible questions.
  2. The following materials are included in the calculation of the weight:
    • Synthetics used as additive to the concrete;
    • Synthetics to make the canoe water-resistant.
  3. During the judgement of the canoe a sample of the used materials must be present. This sample will be used by the construction jury to judge the canoe.
  4. People taking part in the regatta are assumed to agree to these rules and regulations. If the canoe does not comply with the requirements for construction this may lead to disqualification. Disqualification will also follow if the construction report is not received before the date mentioned. In all cases of dispute, that cannot be settled by these rules and regulations, the construction jury and organisation will decide.

  1. The organization of the 33rd Concrete Canoe Race is provided by the Concrete Canoe Race Committee in 2010 (BKR-committee) of study related student association U.T.V. of the Institute of the Built Environment at the Hogeschool Utrecht.
  2. Participation is possible for students (hereinafter referred to as participants) of a technical college or university education (hereinafter referred to as education)
  3. The BKR 2010 takes place under the auspices of the Concrete association.
  4. By participating in BKR 2010, will you automatically agree with the conditions for participation, the construction rules and competition rules.

  1. Participation of private teams made only in consultation with the BKR-committee.
  2. The BKR-commitee reserves the right at all times for special circumstances, dates, times and location of the event or change an event can be carried out without these cases participants may not claim against the organizers at compensation for any damage, in any form or from whatever cause they might have arisen
  3. Under special circumstances, be understood include: insufficient interest of participants, lack of sponsorships, fire, national disaster and other facts and circumstances, after consideration.
  4. Changes of dates, times and location, as referred to above, the participants not their legal tender wholly or partially cancel.

  1. Registration for participation in the event consists of two parts. Through the first part to fill in the second part will be send. To complete the registration.
  2. Registration for participation in the event must be made by downloading the registration form (= agreement of participation) of the website (www.betonkanorace2010.nl). If the entry form is signed by someone who is not competent for the participant to sign on, the BKR-committee nevertheless regarded as the signature made by someone who is authorized and is therefore the participant requires any consequences resulting from this registration result to accept.
  3. Filling in, signing and sending the registration form shall be construed as an irrevocable offer by the participant to participate in the event.
  4. This offer applies is considered by the BKR-committee accepted if and when the BKR-committee of the participant signed a participation agreement has received. The BKR-committee may in special cases does not provide that a registration would be considered.
  5. Registration must be made before March 15, 2010.
  6. The fee must be paid before March 15, 2010. Account number is: 1538.14.519, in the name Betonkanorace 2010 at Utrecht, under BKR2010 and group name.
  7. An application can’t be revoked unilaterally by a participant or amended. If a participant wishes to cancel a registration the participant shall file a written request to do with the BKR-committee. The organizers may request a cancellation of the application, after the participant has paid a cancellation fee according to:
    • 5% of the participants cost if the cancellation of registration will be more than 16 weeks before the event.
    • 50% of the participants cost if the cancellation of registration will be between 12 and 4 weeks before the event.
    • 100% of the participants cost if cancellation of registration less than 4 weeks before the event.
  8. Per vessel, one men’s team, one ladies team and one mixed team may be registered and participate in the various racing disciplines.

  1. Each group of participants must per vessel make a construction report that meets the requirements of the construction regulation.
  2. Elke deelnemersgroep dient per vaartuig een constructieverslag in te leveren dat voldoet aan de in het constructiereglement gestelde eisen.
  3. The report shall by May 15,2010 in three copies in possession of the organization.
  4. On the day of arrival, Friday, June 4, 2010, the vessel to verify compliance with the construction regulations to be presented to the jury structure at the appropriate place and time.
  5. In those cases where the regulations do not provide of the construction rules, construction jury decide.

  1. After midnight it has to be ‘quiet’ at the campsite.
  2. It is not allowed to consume your own alcohol.
  3. Alcoholic and other beverages in glass are prohibited in the whole area.
  4. Making fires is prohibited in the whole area.
  5. Only the specified area is accessible for participants and supporters.
  6. It is not allowed to operate, which in the opinion of the BKR-committee damage or undermine the event, even if those activities are not directed against one or more participants or groups of participants.

  1. All vessels and participants must be attend for Friday, June 4, 2010 2.00 PM.
  2. All vessels and participants must be removed from the area and left the area for Sunday, June 6, 2010 1:00 PM
  3. Wearing the wristband is issued mandatory.
  4. The wristbands are strictly personal.
  5. The wristband gives participants access to the campsite, the area where the breakfast / lunch / dinner is provided and the party.
  6. Participants without a wristband may be refused.
  7. The BKR-committee is always entitled to withdraw wristbands and the person (s) access to the event to deny.

  1. The race area and the campsite should be left clean.
  2. Broken vessels should be brought back, or in the designated container to be deposited.
  3. The cost, which the organization should be made to remove waste left behind by participants and / or vessel and will be claimed by the school of the participants.
  4. The cost, which the organization should be made for (re)placing of vessels to get them dry, those who ends up at the bottom of the water, will be claimed by the school of the participants.

  1. Participants are always responsible for their behavior.
  2. The consumption of alcohol at the campsite en the race during the BKR 2010 is for own risk and responsibility.
  3. Participation and attendance at the BKR 2010 are for your own risk and expense.
  4. The organization is in no way be held liable for any injury, or injuries incurred before, during or after the race.
  5. The organization is not liable for damage, loss or theft of property (s) of participants and / or visitors.
  6. The school, which the participant is connected to, shall ensure that the participant is insured for sickness, accident and liability.
  7. Damage inflicted by the participants, or their vessel (s), to third parties, participants and / or supporters is risk and liability of the participants.
  8. The BKR committee is not liable, unless intent or gross negligence.

  1. For participants who can’t swim, is wearing a lifejacket in the water required.
  2. Exits, passageways, aisles, emergency exits, stairways, etc. should not in any way (whole or in part) be barred.
  3. The stock and in use of bottles with liquid gas is not allowed.
  4. The participant must all indications, that the BKR-committee, the event staff, the rescue, security and / or fire brigade are given immediately to follow.

  1. The BKR-committee is qualified for a participant, in breach of any provision of these terms, the construction rules or the contest rules and / or negotiated by or on behalf of the BKR-committee provided evidence BKR not follow, to in draw his or her ticket and the person (s) access to the event and / or the contest with immediate effect to deny.

  1. In all cases where such conditions and / or other regulations do not provide, BKR-committee decides.
